Coordination centre on Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Belgium

The coordination centre for Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Belgium is a point of contact in the coastal zone where cross-sectoral themes are discussed.

Its mission is to stimulate integrated management of the coastal zone in Belgium.
Main objective: Encourage and promote sustainable and integrated management of the coastal region.

The global aim is supported by three strategic objectives:

  1. Collaborate to implement the recommendation of the European Parliament and the Council of May 30th 2002 concerning the implementation of integrated management of coastal regions in Europe
  2. Promote the integration of planning and politics in the coastal region
  3. Create awareness and commitment for integrated coastal zone management

To attain these three strategic objectives, we need the following operational objectives:

  1. Communicate and sensitize about integrated coastal zone management
  2. Act as a contact point for integrated coastal zone management
  3. Offer a platform for consultation about integrated coastal zone management
  4. Follow up the sustainability indicators of the coastal region
  5. Cooperate to put the recommendations of the European Parliament, concerning the implementation of integrated coastal zone management in Europe, into practice

Dorset Coast Forum

The overriding aim of the Forum is to promote a sustainable approach to the management, use and development of Dorset’s coastal zone, which will ensure that its inherent natural and cultural qualities are maintained and enhanced for the benefit of future generations.

This aim is to be met by:

  • Encouraging co-operation and dialogue between the different interests and users of the Dorset coast
  • Encouraging the gathering and dissemination of knowledge, and the carrying out of necessary research in relation to the physical processes, natural environment and human use of the Dorset coastal zone
  • Reviewing existing national, regional and local coastal policies and working towards the production of integrated policies specific to the Dorset coastal zone

The DCF Vision for the Dorset Coast is to have in 2050:

  • A coast that is at least as beautiful, and as rich in wildlife and culture as it is now
  • A thriving and diverse coastal economy, which has used the resources of the coast sustainably for the last 50 years
  • A coast that is used, enjoyed and appreciated by the people of Dorset, and an active visiting public
  • By 2008, an established reputation for Dorset as a world-leading area in coastal management, where all the key interests are taking decisions and acting together to deliver the highest practical quality of management possible
